2019 May: Bulgaria – Sofia
On a warm May day, Belissa and I decided at short notice for an extended weekend in Sofia.
Sofia, the capital of the Balkan state of Bulgaria, is located in the west of the country at the foot of the Vitosha mountain and not far from the border with Serbia and Macedonia. The city's landmarks and buildings date back over 2,000 years with some Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Soviet influences. We were very lucky; the sun was shining and it was a pleasant 22 degrees. We had enough time to admire the different architectural influences of Sveta Nedelya Cathedral, the Russian Church Sveti Nicolaj, the Historical Museum, the National Theater, the Jewish Synagogue and the Alexander Nevski Cathedral. All in all, it was a successful relaxing weekend by enjoying the flair of this Balkan metropolis.
